Oil Technological Research Institute (OTRI) is a constituent unit under Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur (JNTUA), Anantapur. The institute was undertaken by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University from 1st April 1985 for the better development and greater prospects for the research staff and to expand its progression in the academic activities.
Establishment of OTRI
Oil technological research institute was established in August 1949 by the then composite Madras state at Anantapur, as its locality not only was an academic centre but was also a locus for oil seed growing belt of this part of south India. Anantapur satisfies these two criteria admirably, to a great extent, even today. To quote from the original brochure bought out at the time of founding of this institute, “having regard to the importancy of oilseeds in the economy of this province, it has been considered necessary to set up an oil technological research institute to deal with various problems connected to oil industries”.
This institution was working under the industries department and transferred to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University from 1st April 1985 for the better development and greater prospects for the research staffs and to expand its progression in the academic activities.
